A New Opportunity for Ravenswood Property Owners

Last Updated 4/27/2026Posted in Media Appearances & News Articles

The City of Ravenswood is now moving into the execution phase of its EPA Brownfields Assessment Grant—and this is where the impact begins.

This program is designed to help address one of the biggest challenges facing older commercial buildings: the unknown.

For many property owners, questions about environmental conditions, building materials, or past uses can make it difficult to:

  • sell a property
  • secure financing
  • move forward with redevelopment

This grant allows the City to step in and help remove those barriers.

What This Means for You

If you own a vacant or underused commercial property within the city limits, you may be eligible to receive no-cost environmental assessments and related planning support.

These services can include:

  • Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
  • Surveys for asbestos, lead-based paint, and other materials
  • Reuse and redevelopment planning

The goal is simple:
to give you the information you need to move forward with confidence.

Why This Matters

Many properties in Ravenswood have strong potential—but uncertainty often holds them back.

By identifying and addressing potential issues early, this program helps:

  • reduce risk for property owners
  • make sites more attractive to buyers and investors
  • support new business development and revitalization

This is a practical step toward bringing more buildings back into active use.

What Participation Looks Like

Participation in the program is completely voluntary.

If your property is selected:

  • the City coordinates the assessment process
  • qualified professionals complete the work
  • results are shared with you

You maintain full ownership and control of your property at all times.
