🎨 Big News for Downtown Ravenswood: We’ve Been Awarded a Mural Art Grant!
Downtown Ravenswood Partners is excited to share some colorful news—literally! We’ve just been awarded a Community Arts Project Support Grant from the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History and the West Virginia Commission on the Arts. This funding will bring a brand-new community mural to our historic downtown.
What’s Happening
Working with the professional artists at MuralMosaic.com, we’ll be creating an 8x8 mural mosaic made up of hundreds of individually painted tiles. What makes this project so special is that it’s not just for us—it’s by us. Up to 300 members of our community will get the chance to help paint tiles that will come together into one beautiful piece of art.
Students, families, seniors, and neighbors will all be part of this one-of-a-kind effort. We’ll host a community painting party at City Hall, and our local high school art students will also play a big role in the project. Once all the tiles are complete, they’ll be sent back to the artists, who will assemble them into the final mural.
Where It’s Going
The finished mural will be installed on the brick wall facing the grassy area on Washington Street, on the building currently owned by Jared Bloxton. This spot is highly visible to both foot traffic and drivers passing through downtown, and it will also enhance the future pocket park planned for that space.
When It’s Happening
The mural process will take several months of preparation, painting, and assembly. The final mural will be completed and unveiled in June 2026—just in time to brighten up the summer in downtown Ravenswood!
Why It Matters
This mural is more than just a piece of art—it’s about community pride, beautification, and revitalization. By working together on this project, we’re not just painting tiles, we’re building a sense of ownership and belonging in our downtown. We hope this new mural will:
-
Brighten and beautify the heart of Ravenswood
-
Draw more people downtown and increase foot traffic
-
Encourage community involvement through hands-on participation
-
Create a landmark and photo-worthy destination that reflects our creativity and spirit
What’s Next
The mural project is officially underway, and we’ll be sharing updates as we move forward. Between now and June 2026, we’ll let you know how you can get involved—whether by painting, volunteering, or simply cheering us on.
This is a huge step forward in our ongoing mission to make downtown Ravenswood a vibrant, family-friendly place where people want to live, work, and play. We can’t wait to see this mural come to life and celebrate what we can accomplish together.
Stay tuned—we’ll be sharing details soon about how you can sign up to paint a tile and leave your mark on downtown Ravenswood!
